Some conversations stay with you long after the recording ends.
This is one of them.
This week on Hope Comes to Visit, I’m joined by Brittany Wiederin, a wife, mother, advocate, and founder of the Handle Hard Better Foundation.
After her husband, Cory, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer, Brittany and her family found themselves facing a reality no one is ever prepared for. Together, they navigated caregiving, uncertainty, hope, heartbreak, and ultimately, loss.
But this conversation isn’t only about grief. It’s about love.
It’s about the intentional way Brittany and Cory chose to spend the time they had. It’s about playing catch with their boys every day. It’s about creating memories, recording messages for the future, and finding moments of beauty in what Brittany describes as a “beautiful nightmare.”
Throughout our conversation, Brittany speaks openly about parenting through grief, supporting her sons while carrying her own heartbreak, and choosing vulnerability over silence.
One of the things she says that stayed with me most is this: “For as hard as it is, it’s worth it.” Because grief asks us to feel what we wish we didn’t have to feel. But it also reminds us how deeply we loved.
If you’ve experienced loss, are caring for someone you love, or simply need a reminder that you are not alone in your hardest season, I hope this conversation brings comfort.
And if you’re watching on YouTube, or on Apple Podcasts (they have video now!) I encourage you to stay through the final moments of the episode. Brittany shared personal video footage of Cory, their boys, and the life they built together. It’s a beautiful tribute to the man at the center of this story and a reminder that love continues long after loss.
Connect with Brittany on Instagram and keep an eye out for the Handle Hard Better Foundation.
Listen now wherever you get your podcasts….and if this conversation makes you feel a little less alone, please share it with someone else who might need to here it.
Thank you for trusting me.
xo, Danielle
