What happens when the thing you’ve spent decades building your life around suddenly changes?
This week on Hope Comes to Visit, I’m joined by Dr. Durga Larkin, physician, speaker, author of the new book Timeless Vision, and someone whose life took an unexpected turn after an injury forced her to step away from cataract surgery—a role that had shaped her identity for more than 35 years.
What follows is a beautiful conversation about far more than aging.
We talk about purpose, reinvention, self-reflection, perfectionism, rest, and the courage it takes to imagine a new future when the one you expected is no longer available. One of the things that stayed with me most was hearing Dr. Durga describe how the injury that initially felt devastating eventually became permission. Permission to slow down, permission to reconsider and the permission to listen to what she had been feeling deep inside for years.
We also discuss the labels we carry throughout our lives, how our sense of identity evolves, the importance of maintaining a vision for the future at every age, and why purpose and meaning play such a powerful role in our overall well-being.
This episode is for anyone navigating change, questioning what’s next, grieving a version of life they thought they would have, or learning how to trust themselves in a new season.
Because sometimes the hardest transitions end up revealing the next version of who we’re becoming.
